My name is Dr. Muriel P. Warren and I am a Psychotherapist with years of training and experience in treating Individuals, Couples and Families. I believe that psychotherapy provides people with the opportunity to re-experience the critical emotional life issues that shape everyone's daily interactions at home and in business. I uniquely combine various techniques to match the individual's needs, including, Solution-Focused Psychotherapy, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy.
In May 2004, the Warren Trauma Institute was established to organize and train a cadre of professional responders to help trauma victims in the event of an emergency like the 9/11 disaster. For more information about the institute and how to get certified please see the Warren Trauma Institute button.

In addition to my Professional Practice I am an Author, Educator and Researcher. I have published several comprehensive Behavioral Management Guides including Essential Treatment Strategies for Adults, another for Children and a third for Adolescents each of which spells out detailed treatment plans for all major DSM IV disorders. My most recent book TRAUMA: Treatment and Transformation is available and can be ordered by pressing the books button and clicking on Trauma: Treatment and Transformation.
Psychotherapy with Adolescents and Their Families: Essential Treatment Strategies published by Crown House Publishing is now available. My new book, From Trauma To Transformation, is also in press at Crown. The Warren Trauma Institute philosophy is based on much of the writings in that book which includes Treatment Release Techniques for Traumatized Victims. The book explains why we are living in a world of what I call The National Trauma Syndrome and what to do about it. As I explain in that book stress can be all around you but it does not have to be in you. The book includes sections on how children at different stages of life deal with trauma and death, the mind marked by a terrorist, and how to deal with addictions caused by trauma. What to do about anxiety disorders. There is a chapter on how hypnosis works, I called "Talking to the Amygdala". The preface to the book is written by Dr. Daniel Araoz, and there are chapters written by some of our members - Dr. Michael Innerfield wrote the chapter "Heart Attacks and Trauma", Dr. Martin Tesher wrote on Eating Disorders and Dr. Rita Ghiraldini explains NeuroEmotionalTechques. The courses offered by The Warren Training Institute and staff will be based on the teachings in this book. Dr. Warren is now completing a Hypnosis Video entitled With Your Eyes Wide Open which will be ready in the near future.
We have been accredited by the State of NY and are applying for accreditation in NJ. We have been approved for CEU credits for the Hypnosis Course by the National Association of Social Workers. The course on becoming a Traumatologist is completed and the next one TBA. If you have any interest, please contact Dr. Warren and sign up now. All courses have been approved for CEU credits. The Hypnosis Workshop is now under way.
The members of The Warren Trauma Institute have been busy setting up programs to train school personnel in what to do in case of a 9/11 type disaster. We can no longer ignore the critical role of school personnel in helping children deal with trauma. We are developing a program of specialists to be available to school systems. If you are interested in the training program, please press the Trauma in the Classroom button for more information.
My distinguished colleagues and I are so excited how quickly The Warren Institute has grown. We are now accredited by the State of N.Y. as a Training Institute and thanks to our lawyer Ira Finkelstein we have our 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit status. We have established a point system for those members who want to work on special committees and get paid. This system worked extremely well when I was the Executive Director of the Center for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in New York City. We are now in the midst of using that system as a template for The Warren Trauma Institute and as soon as it is completed, it will be published on this website.
Dr. Vali Hawkins Mitchell, Ph.D., LMHC. from Richland Wa. has also agreed to be Vice President.
